Starboard
The messages people liked, kept where they can be found again.
React to a message enough times and it is copied to a channel of your choosing, so a good joke does not disappear into the scrollback.
Setting it up
- 1Make the channel. Everybody should be able to read it; only the bot needs to write in it.
- 2Run /starboard channel and pick it.
- 3Run /starboard threshold and pick a number. Three to five works in most servers - see below.
- 4Optionally /starboard emoji to use something other than a star, and /starboard color for the embed colour.
- 5React to something with the emoji that many times and check it arrives.
Picking the threshold
This is the only setting that really decides whether a starboard works. Too low and it becomes a second general chat, which nobody reads. Too high and it stays empty, which nobody visits. The right number scales with how many people are usually online, not with how many members you have: about one in ten of the people actually active.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/starboard channel | Where starred messages go. |
/starboard threshold | How many reactions are needed. |
/starboard emoji | Which reaction counts. A custom server emoji works. |
/starboard color | The colour of the embed. |
/starboard autochannel | A channel where the bot adds the first star itself, so nothing there needs a volunteer to get started. For a memes or a screenshots channel. |
/starboard remove_autochannel | Stop doing that. |
/starboard config | Everything above, as it currently stands. |
From the website
The Starboard module has the channel, the threshold, the emoji and the colour on one page - including a colour picker, which beats typing a hex code and checking the result.
