Tripwire

A trap channel that softbans spam bots on their first message.

Spam bots and hacked accounts write in the first channels they can see, without reading them. A tripwire is a channel that says, clearly, do not write here. A person reads that. A bot does not - and is softbanned the moment it posts.

Softbanned means banned and unbanned in the same second. The ban deletes everything they posted in the last hour, across the whole server; the unban means a real person who wrote there by mistake can rejoin with an invite.

Setting it up

  1. 1Create a text channel. Call it something plain, like #do-not-write.
  2. 2Put it near the top of the channel list. Spam bots go for the first channels they find.
  3. 3Run /antinuke tripwire and pick the channel. Arklynn posts the warning there, with a counter of how many it has caught.
  4. 4Make sure Arklynn has Ban Members.
/antinuke tripwire channel: #do-not-write

Anybody with Manage Server is never trapped, so staff can test it. Their message is deleted and nothing else happens.

What else happens

  • The catch becomes a numbered case in the moderation log, with the message they sent.
  • It is added to their warning history as a softban (it does not count as a warning).
  • The account is flagged across every server Arklynn protects, so it arrives anywhere else already marked.
  • The counter under the warning goes up.

Turning it off

Run /antinuke tripwire without a channel. The channel and its message stay where they are; delete them yourself if you no longer want them.
